TRILEGAL history

Where it comes from TRILEGAL was initially conceived as a theoretical tool to help in the science verification of the EIS public surveys. The software originates from many different pieces of C code previously written by Léo Girardi, starting at around 1994, at Instituto de Física da UFRGS, Max-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik, and Dipartimento di Astronomia di Padova, which were dealing with isochrone construction, synthetic photometry, and simulations of stellar populations (star clusters and external galaxies). Only in 2000, at ESO, these pieces took the shape of a "Galaxy population synthesis star counts model". In 2003 it was named TRILEGAL.
History log
  • Dec 11, 2009: Bug corrected: brown dwarfs were inavertedly turned off in version 1.4. They are on now. Only very deep simulations were affected. (Thanks N. Wright for pointing it out).
  • Oct 08, 2009: TRILEGAL 1.4 becomes the default. The WFC3 systems were rebuilt with the final WFC3 throughputs from the on-orbit SMOV4 observations (J. Kalirai, private comm.). The F187N and F190N filters (H. Dong, private comm.) were added to the NICMOS Vega system.
  • Jun 2009: TRILEGAL 1.4, with structural changes in the cgi-bin scripts.
  • Feb 2009: TRILEGAL 1.3, the bulge component was made available.
  • March 2008: TRILEGAL 1.2, finally transferred to http://stev.oapd.inaf.it server. Many new photometric systems available. Started integration with CMD.
  • Jan 15, 2005: Added ACS, BATC and UKIDSS systems
  • Dec 1, 2005: TRILEGAL 1.1 made available on http://trilegal.ster.kuleuven.be
  • 2005: recalibration as in Paper II, code frozen and named TRILEGAL 1.0.
  • 2002: code completed and first calibrated, as in Paper I.
